About this work:

Uninterested in what the camera can do as a factual recording device; I have created a special lens for my camera by stacking glass elements taken from old lenses to create a tool that distorts light and perspective. The imagery created doesn't exist externally, nor is it modified after capture, instead occurring solely within the camera. I use these modified lenses to explore the unknown and the expansive by subverting the implied reality of captured images.

The work in Voids, etc. was captured with this lens as a way to change visual reality into something beyond the real. In order to look past what we're capable of seeing from our own physicality, we must find a way to see into the numinous potential that lies beyond. If photography is the act of capturing light and time, then this lens acts as a tool to view both of these realities on another wavelength, much like the deep space telescopes capture Gamma and X-rays to bring us otherwise unseen images of the universe.

Voids, etc. explores cosmology and personal transformation through the continuous cycle of birth-death-rebirth. If all begins in the void, what first emerges is chaos. Chaos, active and moving, eventually settles into order. But order, while appearing stable, is never permanent and eventually must plunge into the void, to be transformed into chaos once more. This new chaos eventually returns to a new order, and the cycle repeats continuously, unending.
